'Nationalism', plates and dough, 300 x 20 cm, 2017
The grand revamp of Skopje that was announced back in 2010, over the years reached the cost of 680 million euros, a huge amount of money for such a poor country spent on sculptures, facades and new buildings. The Neo-Baroque makeover was a way for the government to rewrite history and materialize its own vision of the county’s identity. Even though it’s a very local issue, this work is about a very common logic of governmental ruling: “when people are poor, you feed them with nationalism”.
